Please join us in support of a local organization that offers support and therapeutic care to adolescent youth in our area.

The sagging economy and funding cuts have challenged our nonprofit agency to seek new ways of increasing revenues in order for us to continue our work with adolescents needing special therapeutic care.To increase awareness of our organization and in an effort to raise funds for the Transitions to Adulthood Program and to enable us to continue to prepare our adolescent residents for the responsibilities of young adulthood, we will be hosting our first annual "Roots & Wings" Gala & Auction.

The funds that we raise will ensure that Noank Group Homes will continue to offer our residents support and care which has a lasting impact on their lives. Please read on to hear how some of our former residents have benefited from their experience with the organization:

"I was a hard nut to crack when I lived at High Street House in the 1980’s.  I trusted no one and no one had a reason to trust me.  I wasn’t easy to live with or to like. I didn’t like myself.  But no one on the staff gave up on me.  They saw something good in me that I couldn’t see.  After a while, I smiled a little more and started to believe that maybe I was good enough to love and be loved.  I don’t know how my life would have turned out if I didn’t live in a group home like High Street House."   JLB

“I lived at High Street House” many years ago and I often thought it should have been called High Street Home because that’s what it was to me.  I had parents but I never felt like I was living in a family until I went to live at High Street House in Mystic.  I felt loved and cared for by people that weren’t even related to me.  When my two children were much younger, they would ask me where I lived when I was their age - - I told them I lived in Mystic with my “family” in a home where there was fun, laughter, discipline, and love.  That’s how I tried to raise my kids, too. "   M.B.

"When I lived with my Mom and Dad, we never celebrated birthdays and Christmas was just a day to watch holiday movies. Santa Claus never found our apartment I guess.  I was taken from Mom and Dad because of neglect.  I went to live in one of Noank (Baptist) Group Homes.   It was there that I learned how birthdays and Christmas holidays were celebrated in happy families.  I also learned how to cook and bake, how to save money, and clip coupons for grocery shopping.  I really appreciate what the group home taught me and how they saved my life.  Thank you!"   Sue

News From The Executive Director

08.17.2011

August – September, 2011

From the Executive Director:

As the summer of 2011enters its last month before fall makes its official entrance, we are looking forward to the new fiscal year with much anticipation.  The development committee of the board of directors has been hard at work planning a Roots and Wings Gala and Auction at the Mystic Arts Center, 9 Water Street scheduled for Saturday, September 24 at 7:00 PM.  This event will be an opportunity to showcase who we are, the services we offer, and testimonies from girls whose lives have been impacted by their having lived at our group homes. Moreover, the gala will kick off a major fundraiser.  The festivities will feature live music from Rock and Soul Revue, cocktails from Cash ‘N Keg, hors d’oeurves from Go Fish and Steak Loft restaurants, and a silent and live auction.  The cost of tickets is $40 person and $75 per couple. Olde Mistick Village and The Reardon Law Firm, P.C. are our Platinum Sponsors.  More sponsors are needed to help support our event as well as the girls in our group homes.   Please call our office at (860) 333-1623 to see how you can help!!

Also, our local television show, Roots and Wings, will feature members of the development committee discussing the upcoming Gala and Auction.  The shows will be aired from 7 to 8 PM on the Comcast channel on August 8, September 6, September 13 and September 20.

The year 2012 will mark the 40th anniversary of Noank Group Homes and Support Services, Inc.  There will be observances of this milestone during the year so stay tuned to this web site for more information.

We are very pleased to announce that four of “our” girls graduated from high school this past June and three of them will be attending post-secondary schools this fall.  We are very proud of their accomplishments….but more importantly, they are proud of their accomplishments!

Hope to see you at the Gala and Auction on Saturday, September 24th!

Peace and blessings,

Sandy Easton
